Buying Specac FTIR accessories in India: the authorised route
An FTIR accessory is a small line on a purchase order and a long relationship afterwards — crystals, windows, spacers, dies, repolishing, applications questions. The channel you buy through decides what that relationship looks like. Here is how the authorised route works in India, without the sales gloss.
What "authorised distributor" actually means
Spectrolab Systems is the authorised Indian distributor of Specac Ltd (UK). In practice that means: products sourced directly from the manufacturer with full traceability; the manufacturer's warranty honoured in India without argument; access to Specac's applications engineering when a configuration question exceeds ours; and accountability — a Mumbai address and a phone number that answers, this year and in five years.
Contrast the alternatives. Grey and parallel imports may quote lower on day one, but warranty claims route nowhere, configurations arrive unverified against your spectrometer, and the "supplier" is a trading account, not a counterpart. On precision optics — where a mishandled ZnSe crystal or a wrong-windowed cell is money gone — that discount is expensive.
Getting the configuration right before the PO
Most accessory problems are specification problems. Before we quote, we confirm three things: your spectrometer make and model (baseplates and beam geometry differ across Thermo Fisher/Nicolet, PerkinElmer, Bruker, Shimadzu, JASCO and Agilent); your sample types (which set crystal material, window material and pathlength); and your analysis goal (routine ID, quantitation, surface work, heated studies). Institutional and government procurement
Universities, national institutes and PSU laboratories can procure through their standard channels, and we support public procurement including the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) route. For tender and committee purchases we provide the documentation the process needs — authorisation confirmation, technical compliance statements against your specification sheet, and clarifications during evaluation. Landed cost and lead time, honestly
Imported scientific goods carry customs duty and IGST on top of the product price and freight — and how a shipment is classified and documented determines whether clearance is smooth or stuck. This is where our structure is unusual: our group includes Bruce Logistics, a licensed customs broking and freight forwarding company. Classification, clearance and delivery run in-house, which is why the landed price on our quotation is the price you pay, and the lead time we state is one we control end to end. Standard items are quoted with current stock or factory lead time; we would rather state a real date than a pleasant one.
